Logan and I (Ellie) met in a very traditionally, untraditional way—our moms set us up! After a chance meeting of Logan’s mom at a Goochland Pet Lover’s Christmas party, I was awoken the next morning by my very eager mother insisting that I go meet someone named Logan. If you know me, you know that I am not a morning person, and waking me up with lifechanging information at 7:00 in the morning isn’t going to get the best response. By the time, I had fully woken up, my mom was already envisioning my impending nuptials to a boy I knew nothing about. I was in trouble.

My mom gave me Logan’s number and very kindly said that I did not have to reach out, but that she would be disappointed in me if I didn’t. Classic mom move. I reached out and we set a date to meet for coffee at CanCan at 3:00 pm on December 28th, 2018.

Logan has never let me live down that first meeting. First, I insisted on shaking his hand when I introduced myself (I don’t hug strangers). Then, I had to confess that I don’t drink and the champagne he wanted to order, he would be drinking alone. I also asked him what was his favorite era of history (mine is the classical era of Rome and Greece) and might have made a derogatory joke about his beloved alma mater. Finally, he walked me back to my car and saw that I drove a Subaru. It really is a miracle he wanted to see me again after that meeting!

Little did we know, exactly six years later on December 28th, 2024, we would be getting married. We have grown a lot in those six years. We both graduated with Master’s Degrees, started new careers, retired from said career (in my case), moved to Florida, learned to fly solo (again, in my case), taken many vacations, looked at a lot of boats, made a lot of new friends, and, best of all, got to be together for all of it. We are so excited for this next phase of our lives.
